Near to the entrance to the war tunnels, two impressive monuments had been erected to honor the heroes of the war tunnels. The war tunnels monuments were very similar to those erected at Tiananmen, although for different reasons. The local people, who had helped in keeping the war tunnel fighters supplied, were not forgotten. Chinese children on the road at the exit of the war tunnels site, were intrigued by the Western visitor, and had many questions to ask.
