A visit to the Summer Palace in Beijing is enjoyed not only by visitors to China, but also by the Chinese people themselves, perhaps visiting Beijing from other provinces. The Summer Palace is rich in history, not only in the attention it received from western troops during the Boxer Rebellion, but also in the activities of the Empress Dowager and her use of funds intended for the Chinese navy. The Chinese Emperors could never have imagined that one day the entrance to their Summer Palace would have mobile snacks bars, Chinese taxis and Chinese buses in attendance!
